Here's a good editorial on a flaw in the recommendations of the U.S. Oceans Commission Report -- that government royalties from offshore oil and gas drilling be used to create a trust fund to finance "improvement of ocean and coastal management, including the sustainability of renewable resources." The Governors of California and Maine have both objected to this.
From their wells to the government's pockets.
WHY SHOULDN'T OIL & GAS MONEY BE USED?THE OIL & GAS INDUSTRY HAS DONE MORE TO IMPROVE FISHERIES THAN YOU MAY BE AWARE OF.IT IS TIME PEOPLE WISE UP TO FACT THAT ACTIVE & INACTIVE OIL & GAS PLATFORMS HABITAT IN THE FORM OF ARTIFICAL REEFS THAT SUPPORT MARINE WILDLIFE.BY THE WAY THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A MAJOR OIL SPILL AS A RESULT OF DRILLING IN THE GULF OF MEXICO IN THE PAST FIFTY YEARS.SO GIVE THE IDEA SOME MORE THOUGHT INSTEAD OF REACTING FROM EMOTIONS.
Posted by: JON OXLEY at October 20, 2004 02:32 AMHey, I'm not the one objecting to this -- it's the Governor of Gal-ee-fornya, the REPUBLICAN governor, The Governator himself, Mr. Ahnold Schwarzenegger. Maybe you need to write him a letter and tell him to stop being a Girlie Man about it.
