10/6 - New Zealand Goes for Quotas for All Fisheries Species

NZ fisheries season opens by adding 21 new species to their Quota Management System, achieving their goal of 50 species which includes all the major species. Check out the story.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but this was mentioned in the atricle.

"From now the 1900 to 1992 fishing years catch history will no longer be the basis of how quota is allocated."

Sadly it was not expanded any farther. Maybe this is an example of a 'good' shifted baseline. That's if they intend to use their new baseline to further restrict fishing quotas.
